Notes:  Hagan, New Mexico, was a company town, built and promoted to appeal to the miners who came to work the nearby coal mines.  Hagan’s founder, Dr. J.J. dePraslin, hired Abenicio Salazar, a contractor from Bernalillo, to design and build the homes and buildings of Hagan.  Salazar knew adobe, and Hagan was an adobe town.  Hagan’s life span was relatively short–1924-1931–when the coal mines ceased to be economically viable.  “In the end, it is a sad story of the unrealized expectations of a dreamer’s business venture collapsing, a unique builder’s finest work forgotten and dashed hopes of town residents seeking a better life.”  (From the Preface).  The town site of Hagan sits on private land, and is not open to visitors.
