Notes: Booklet. Little Petroglyph Canyon, in the Coso Range of eastern California, is located within the boundaries of the China Lake Naval Air Weapons Station. Access to the canyon is only available through tours conducted by the Maturango Museum, on weekends during the spring and fall (It’s the Mojave Desert, folks). The walking tours are self-guided, about 2 miles long (1.2 km). Little Petroglyph Canyon is home to the largest number of petroglyphs in the Coso Range. The petroglyphs were created by members of the Shoshone and Northern and Southern Paiute tribes, probably by shamans.
