Notes: MNA Research Paper 2.  Anthropology Research Report 2.  Ceramic Section by Gale McPherson.  Excavation of 6 sites prior to road realignment.  “Nearly 15,000 sherds retrieved from the six prehistoric sites illustrate a regional shift from black-on-white decorated ceramics prior to A.D. 1200 to red ware during the 13th century…The Nutria Road sites reflect changes over a period of several centuries which affected the entire upper Zuni River drainage.  Movement into the major drainages and gradual amalgamation into larger pueblos is clearly visible by A.D. 1250 or 1275…and culminated in the establishment of just six Zuni villages, the so-called ‘Cities of Cibola,’ during the 15th century.”  (From the Abstract)
