Notes: Laboratory of Anthropology Note No. 321.  Historic rather than prehistoric archaeology.  Michael Cavanaugh was born in Ireland in 1832, and was brought to the United States by an uncle.  He made a career as a builder and stonemason, building a number of notable buildings in Kansas, Texas, and New Mexico.  He established a ranch near Las Vegas, NM.  This survey looks at the historic variables–availability of goods, economic status of site occupants, subsistence, spatial organization, refuse disposal, and post-abandonment processes.  Seems like lots of guesswork (albeit archaeologically accurate) going on in this report.
