Condition: 3 copies.  Copy 1 (LC21): Fair.  Stapled binding tight.  No tears.  Previous owner’s name on upper front cover edge.  Foxing to front and rear spine edges.  Upper rear cover corner has an approx. 6″ fold.  Hand-written not on lower corner title page near spine foot (personal library number?).  Edge and corner wear.  Copy 2 (LC21): Poor to Fair.  Stapled binding wearing, loose at bottom staple, and close to loose at the top.    The most notable defect of this volume is the smudging to front and rear covers (dirt?).  One long fold on front cover, from top to bottom.  Spine foot has an approx. 1″ tear.  Spine head has an approx. 1/4″ tear.  There’s an approx. 1-1½” x 1/8″ damp stain along bottom text edge, extends through entire volume.   Edge and corner wear.  Copy 3 (LC21):  Poor.  Paper covers separated from text body, now taped.  Lower front cover has a tape remnant that looks like a repair, but there’s no evidence of a tear.  Spotting, smudging to lower front cover corner.  Upper front cover corner has an approx. 1/18″ triangular chip.  At least two previous owners.  One previous owner’s name in pencil near upper corner ffep.  A second previous owner’s name in ink on upper rear cover corner near spine head.  One long fold from top to bottom on rear cover.  Small tears through text body recto edge.

Notes: Pamphlet.  Offprint.  Papers of the School of American Archaeology Number Four.  Originally published in Out West (1908?) as Archaeology of )the Rio Grande Valley.  Puye (now known as Puye Cliff Dwellings) was occupied from the 900s to 1580 A.D., by approximately 1500 residents.  Puye was the first of the ancestral New Mexico pueblos to be systematically excavated (by Hewett).
