Condition: Fair.  Stapled binding tight.  Front cover at spine edge folded (from opening).  Lower front cover corner has an approx. 1/2″ bend.  Upper front cover corner has an approx. 1″ crease.  Two previous owners.  First previous owner’s stamp on upper corner title page.  Warm inscription by the author to second previous owner on mid-title page.  Penciled number above title on title page.   Partial title in marker on spine.  Some edge and corner wear.

Notes: Salvage archaeology conducted on one site within the right-of-way of Arizona State Route 188.  A total of 9 sites were found within the right-of-way, but only one, the largest, was completely excavated.  The site had been damaged during road construction in 1952, but had not been pot-hunted.  “Twelve pithouses, thirty hearths, seven cremations and one burial were excavated.  From these, approximately 75,000 sherds and flakes were recovered, 300 artifacts, numerous charcoal samples, and about 100 pollen samples.” (Page 5).  Haas was still an undergraduate when this was written, so this may have been his first publication, and undoubtedly inscribed much later than 1971, to the second previous owner, when they both lived in Santa Fe.  First previous owner was Albert Ward, his stamp on title page.  VERY RARE.  No other copies available for sale, and held in only 7 libraries.
