Notes: IN SPANISH. 392 sculptures, many catalogued for the first time. The layout of the book is somewhat confusing–Spanish descriptions first, arranged by 1) Locale where the sculpture was found; 2) a history of the piece; 3) material description; 4) a formal description of the object; and 5) references for the particular piece, numbered 1.1, 1.2, 2.1, etc. The descriptions are followed by the photograph section (468 pages of descriptions, 172 pages of photographs). The descriptions and the accompanying black-and-white photographs are numbered in corresponding Roman numerals (that’ll take you a minute to figure out). The sculptures are divided into figures with no determinate sex, human female figures, human male figures, human heads, animal figures, mixed figures (I don’t even want to know), various incomplete figures, and figures in relief. There is also a section on sculptures that may or may not be Huastec. There are an Index of Sculptures, an Index of Locations where the sculptures were found, an Index of Photographs, and a bibliography. IN SPANISH.
