Unfortunately, at the time this volume was written a large number of the sites were in decay and in need of restoration. These weren’t built for long-term habitation, just kind of mini-fortresses. NM BLM has now restored more than 2 dozen of these sites, most in the Largo-Gobernador area of northwest New Mexico, and with the installation of interpretive signage has reduced vandalism.
