Notes: Memoirs of the Society for American Archaeology Number Nineteen, issued as American Antiquity, Volume 31, Number 2, Part 2, October, 1965. It’s hard to imagine now that 60 years ago Mesa Verde was not as popular an attraction as it is now. Nevertheless, the park officials foresaw an increasing number of visitors, and the need not only for more facilities, but the need for more “interpretation.” Toward that end they planned for more excavation, stabilization, and preparation of three major cliff dwellings and six or more archaeological features. Publication of these papers was one of the final tasks.
