Notes: LA-3636, UC-2, General, Miscellaneous and Progress Reports, TID-4500. Overgrown pamphlet, 8½” x 11″, 39 pages. The Mesita was originally surveyed in 1935 for the National Park Service. When LANL required more space for disposal of contaminated materials (think radioactive), Mesita del Buey met the lab’s requirements (large pits 600 feet long, 100 feet wide, and 25 feet deep). In 1957, excavation began on four sites. “The following conclusions have been reached through analysis of both large and small sites in this area. 1. The small-house sites were occupied during the Pueblo III period from 1150 to shortly after 1300. 2. The small-house sites antedated the larger communal dwellings. 3. At least two groups of people, Keresan and Tanoan, inhabited the Pajarito Plateau during prehistoric times. 4. The small houses and the later communal sites in Frijoles Canyon were occupied by the Keresan people. 5. Pottery analysis and architectural features indicate that the early Keresans migrated to this area from the Little Colorado River and Zuni-Acoma areas. (Page 38). The area was abandoned prior to 1350 A.D. From the library of the late archaeologist Al Schroeder, his signature on title page. VERY RARE. No other copies available for sale.
