Notes:  The Kennewick Man skeleton was discovered in 1996, and controversy was immediate.  After some initial examination of the remains (radiocarbon dating) the Native American tribes in the area claimed provenience under NAGPRA, in order to rebury the remains.  The skeleton was seized by the Army Corps of Engineers (jurisdiction over the area where the skeleton was found), and placed into federal custody.  Examination of the remains continued until court cases played out.  It was determined the skeleton was most closely to the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation (Washington), and in 2017 the remains were returned and reburied.  Scientists (the author included) hypothesized the remains were more closely related to Polynesian or Southeast Asian peoples.  It’s a migration story at heart, with political overtones.  Who was he and how did he get here?
