Condition: 2 copies. Copy 1: Fair. Binding tight. No marks, bends, folds. Title page and first page of Table of Contents have a small chip at the lower corner. Otherwise good. This copy (and Copy 2) came from copies of the Fifth Annual Report of the Bureau of Ethnology (Smithsonian Institution, 1887) that were falling apart. I extracted the reports and had them rebound in paperback with a new title label for the front cover. Copy 2: Fair. Binding tight. No tears, bends, or folds. There is an approx. 4″ x 1/2″ liquid stain to the lower corner of the volume–think of a reversed L and that’s what the stain looks like–that extends through the entire volume. Does not affect text or illustrations. There is a smaller triangular stain to the upper corner of the pages, extends through entire volume. Does not affect text or illustrations. Some illustrations of sand paintings in color.
Notes: The Mountain Chant is a complex, 9 day ceremonial designed to bring an individual back into harmony with his surroundings and the people around him. It culminates on the 9th night with invited guests and food, all paid for by the patient. Some parts of the text are in Navajo.
