Notes: Upper Colorado Series Number 1.  “The reservoir created by the Flaming Gorge dam will directly affect two counties in two states–Daggett County, Utah, and Sweetwater County, Wyoming.  The dam itself will be located in Red Canyon of the Green River in Daggett County.”  (From the Introduction).   The Green River was known to the Crow and other tribes as the Sheetskadee (a Crow term meaning prairie hen).  The Green River name probably derives from both the Spanish and American explorers who noted the color of the river once it had deposited its load of silt and becomes clear.  This chronology begins in 1805, with the Rocky Mountain fur trade, and covers pioneers and their trails, the trading posts that served them, ranching, outlaws, the railroad, and “the contemporary period” (as of 1959).  As of 2020, the population of Daggett County was 935.
